Autumn 2020

„Music in the time of Corona part 2“ Dear friends,

We hope that you have been well since our last newsletter. Here are some updates of our latest musical activites:

Good news!

We were able to complete our 4th chamber music course for amateur winds and strings in the music school Auftakt in Hürth from the 28th through the 30th August as well as give our annual concert on the 29th of August in the St. Katharina church. The participants came open, willing and excited to learn and the audience was really appreciative to be able to finally attend a live classical concert.

These programs were part of VivazzAs hommage to Beethoven and his 250th Birthday Jubiliaum year. In our course as well as our August concert we concentrated on smaller chamber works. Special thanks to the Landesmusikrat NRW for giving us a grant towards the expenses of our course!

Eroica.Revisited

Our next program, Eroica.Revisited, is a continuation of our series dedicated to Beethovens Jubilee year. At the core of this program is the 3rd Symphony of Beethoven which we will be performing in our nonet formation – Yes, you have read correctly, VivazzA will be performing an entire symphony of Beethoven as a chamber work :)

We will also be performing the Nonet Op. 77 from Beethovens french colleague, George Onslow who has a strong connection with the Rhineland. The former conductor of the Düsseldorf Symphony, Felix Mendelssohn, conducted his works in Aachen in 1846 as well as Onslow himself premiered his 4th symphony with the Cologne- Gürzenich Orchestra at the Niederrheinische Festival in 1847.

At the core of VivazzA performances is the promotion of seldom played composers as well as new compositions. To this end, we will be performing the nonet, Beautiful Death from the african-american composer Evan Williams. This nonet depicts Williams impressions of the photo of the death of Evelyn McHale in 1947 that was seen worldwide through the magazine „Life“ and is a critic on the motive of the classic weaker role of women in classical opera to which the strong female character of Leonore in Beethovens only opera, Fidelio, is the complete opposite.
