Brücken nach Theresienstadt

This year, we were bestowed a special honor: At the invitation of the Theresienstadt Memorial, we provided the musical accompaniment for the central memorial ceremony, attended by the Czech President and other high-ranking political officials.

But the trip to Terezín was not the only major component of this project. In cooperation with the NS-DOK in Cologne and the Gerhart-Hauptmann-Haus in Düsseldorf, two additional concerts were held that explored cultural life in the camp and focused on compositions that were of great significance to the resistance there, such as Rudolf Karel’s nonet, which was partially arranged in Theresienstadt, or excerpts from Verdi’s Requiem, which was performed more than 13 times in the camp by groups the inmates organized themselves.

Using banned and defamed compositions from North Rhine-Westphalia, we built a bridge to commemorate the victims of Nazi crimes in the local area.
